  • High Blood Pressure (Hypertension)
  • High Cholesterol

  • Coronary Artery Disease
  • Atrial Fibrillation (A type of irregular heart rhythm)

  • Diabetes
  • Gender (Men are more affected by Stroke than women but more women die from Stroke than do men.)
  • Obesity (Overweight)
  • Race (Stroke affects African-Americans more often than caucasians.)
  • Heredity or Family History

Cardiovascular disease, of which Stroke is a type, is the leading cause of death in the United States.
