Stroke and Vascular Disease are leading causes of death and
disability in the United States.
First, we evaluate our patients
for the three leading causes
and risk factors for a stroke:
|
Carotid Artery Disease |
Plaque build up in the carotid artery
causes a blockage of blood flow to the brain. |
|
Atrial Fibrillation |
An abnormal electrical
conduction in the heart which causes insufficient pumping of the blood
through the heart and body. |
|
Hypertension |
High blood pressure from the force of
your blood pumping through your arteries. |
|
Our stroke screening looks for and identifies abnormalities in each
of these risk categories. |
Then, we assess our patients' abdominal aorta.
|
Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm |
Abdominal
Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) is a dilation (ballooning) of a
portion of the aorta.
Approximately 18,000 people die each year from an abdominal
aneurysm rupture. Most of these people have NO SYMPTOMS from their
aneurysm until it becomes an emergency. |
|
Our
abdominal ultrasound screening identifies abnormalities in
this important blood vessel. |
